SMARTRISK has entered in the Aviva Community Fund competition an idea to train 250 new No Regrets schools in 2010. You can help us make it happen. The 25 ideas with the most votes will make it to the semi-finals and have a chance to share in the $500,000 fund.
Injury takes the lives of more young Canadians than all other causes combined, killing 700 teenagers every year. SMARTRISK No Regrets trains students and their staff advisers to implement injury prevention activities in their high schools, designed to influence students’ risk-taking attitudes and behaviours.
A recent evaluation found that students reported 17% fewer injuries requiring medical care after a single year’s exposure to the program. This year, SMARTRISK will have trained more than 100 schools across Canada.
With the help of the Aviva Community Fund, SMARTRISK could train 250 new schools in 2010. We will move to a model that trains local professionals through our existing community networks, to recruit, train and manage the relationships with high schools.
